Richard Glossip maintains his innocence in the 1997 murder-for-hire of Barry Van Treese. An independent investigation found that police urged the perpetrator to say Glossip paid him to kill Van Treese. A box of evidence was destroyed, at the order of Oklahoma County prosecutors, before Glossip’s second trial.
Oklahoma, Restorative Justice, and the Death Penalty: A Conversation with Shane Claiborne
About this event
Oklahoma recently set 25 execution dates over the next two years at the pace of a month's execution. With the rising concerns over Richard Glossip's possible innocence and national concerns over Oklahoma's inhumane lethal injection protocols, is now the time for executions to resume in Oklahoma?
Faith leaders, please join us on August 19th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Crew Workspace, 619 W. Main, OKC, OK 73102, for a deeper conversation about faith and the death penalty with Shane Claiborne, the author of Executing Grace: How the Death Penalty Killed Jesus and How it's Killing Us.
Shane will share with us, and we will have a time of Q&A and an open dialogue surrounding this issue. Bob Goff, the author of 'Love Does' says, "Shane Claiborne is a friend of mine. He's written a book about love and justice and Jesus. It's also a book about us. Shane knows there's no justice without love, and there's no love without justice. His voice is one I've trusted for a long time because he lives what he talks about. Whether you agree with him or not, you'll turn the last page of this book, and you'll not just know more; you'll want to do more."
John Perkins, the author of Let Justice Roll Down, says, "I wish the whole Church would read this book." Shane Claiborne is a prominent speaker, activist, and best-selling author. Shane worked with Mother Teresa in Calcutta and founded The Simple Way in Philadelphia. He heads up Red Letter Christians, a movement of folks who are committed to living "as if Jesus meant the things he said."
We believe now is the time for faith leaders in Oklahoma to engage in this conversation, and we hope you can join us. We will have coffee and snacks. Register Here.
